This book presents methodological and empirical advancements in evaluating the accessibility, use demand and behavior, and equity of urban parks. A comparative analysis was conducted across four planning areas in Singapore, a renowned compact city. An innovated conceptual framework was devised to effectively measure residents’ physical and perceived accessibility to their most often visited parks, explore their perceptional park use demand and behavior, as well as to evaluate the spatial equity of park distribution. This was achieved through spatial analysis combined with a household perception study involving 597 participants. The target audience for this book includes undergraduate and graduate students interested in accessibility, behavior and equity analysis, researchers focusing on spatial and behavioral analysis of urban public facilities, and practitioners involved in the planning and management of urban parks and greenspaces.

1. Introduction.- 2. Literature Review.- 3. Theoretical Framework.- 4. Research Methodology.- 5. Comparison of Different Accessibility Measurements.

Zhang Jingyuan, Dr., Associate Professor, is currently affiliated with the School of Architecture, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen). She obtained her PhD degree from the National University of Singapore, under the guidance of Prof. Tan Puay Yok. Dr. Zhang is a dedicated researcher focusing on urban parks and green spaces. Her research encompasses two main areas: (1) Distribution and usage pattern of urban greenspaces: evaluating the distribution of urban greenspaces from the perspectives of accessibility and equity, and studying the park usage behavior and preferences of individuals with diverse socio-economic backgrounds;

(2) Perceptional studies of urban parks: investigating public perceptions of urban greenspaces through various sensing techniques like wearable sensors, skin conductance response, electroencephalograph, virtual reality videos, etc.

The research featured in this publication was honored with the ESRI Young Scholar Award in 2017, awarded by Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) in the United States.
