Beschreibungen

This work explores the adventures and the personality of Twm Shôn Catti. Commonly referred to as 'The Welsh Robin Hood,' he is a legendary figure in Welsh History, closely associated with Rhandirmwyn and the Upper Tywi Valley. Tales about him differ in details, but he is said to have been born close to Tregaron in around 1530. Twm was a mischievous character who often disappeared following daring exploits at the expense of the rich and noble. Being a passionate Protestant, Twm fled to Geneva to avoid persecution by the Catholic Queen Mary, and returned to Wales to be granted a royal pardon by Elizabeth I. Although the earliest stories about him were passed on orally, there were several written accounts of TwmSiôn Cat later. The chapters in this book are filled with exciting details on this famous figure in Welsh folklore, including the incidents that occurred before his birth, his countless adventures, and many more.
