Beschreibungen

The gospel of Jesus provides hope for humanity, access to God, purpose for human existence, and empowerment for daily living. These and other benefits are revealed by God, but they also require a human messenger. It is thus the responsibility of believers to share the truth via life and word.

In the real world, however, there are many obstacles to faith, which is why it is essential to explain, defend, and show forth the truth--thus the need for apologetics.

However, not all agree on how best to approach apologetics, and numerous suggestions have been put forth. This is why, as Carmen DiCello reminds us, it is imperative that we think through what it means to be able to "give an answer" for the hope that is in us.

Truth in Balance addresses issues that encourage an apologetic that remains faithful to Scripture while illuminating the beauty and wonder of the Christian gospel in today's culture.
Carmen DiCello has served as an associate and senior pastor, and he is currently a public school teacher and an adjunct professor at Columbia Evangelical Seminary. He is the author of
Why? Reflections on the Problem of Evil (2007) and
Dangerous Blessing: The Emergence of a Postmodern Faith (2005), and is a contributor to the
New Dictionary of Christian Apologetics (2006).
"Dr. DiCello's new book is an amazing collection. What struck me was his ability to combine some very solid exegetical work (for instance in 1 Peter) with practical insight and good application. Too many scholars are on only one side of the fence-either the work is highly academic with little application or else the application is not really related to the text. Dr. DiCello manages both along with the ability to keep your interest and make you think. I highly recommend it!"
"One of my favorite words in the English language is 'balance.' The word evokes cause for pause and thoughtful reflection. I can summarize Dr. DiCello's book in one word: 'Balance.' In the midst of the clash of modernity and postmodernity, Carmen's book provides a thoughtful approach to solid, Christian apologetics that builds bridges among various groups rather than barriers that would divide them. Truth in Balance is a timely blessing for those in Christ and for those who are yet to come to the Savior."
"Truth in Balance does a masterful job covering foundational apologetic territory. However, this book does far more than this. It delves into areas that are rarely addressed, encouraging an apologetic that is lived out in everyday life. I highly recommend this book by Carmen DiCello."
"The apostle Peter tells Christians that they must be ready to give an account for the hope that is in them to those who ask (1 Peter 3:15). Truth in Balance opens on the right foundation, setting forth the biblical basis for apologetics and then moves into more practical matters. As DiCello notes, the task of apologetics is not to be left to armchair theologians and pastors; it is an endeavor in which every Christian is called to participate. Truth in Balance is passionately written to encourage all members of the body of Christ to engage in the task of apologetics.
"Carmen DiCello gives us two books for the price of one: a usable, plausible apologetics for a post-Christian culture, and a hands-on but not high-handed fondling of the contours of truth that is packed with punch and bursting with passion."
